Video file will not play  en

A little help required please regarding first time use of a WAV audio file. It plays correctly on my PC - but I can’t get it to work in X5.

I have tried http://files.websitex5.com/answers_topic_files/extensions/Extensions.zip Have extracted and moved the two files (np-mswmp.dll and NPSWF32_11_5_502_110.dll) into the 'Extensions' folder of C:\Program Files (x86)\WebSite X5 v12 Evolution\Extensions. WebSite X5 was closed before moving these files.

Re-started WebSite X5 and checked playback of the ‘wav’ media file in the preview browser - with option 2-Autoplay selected. It shows a slider - but does not play the music. If I change the file to ‘mp3’ I get the same.

If I change to file to ‘wma’ I get message - “Install Media Player Plugin.”
I have checked that Chrome has the setting to ‘run all plugin content’.

Hopefully just a simple fix is required. Please let me know what to try next. I do not want to use MP4.

Many thanks, Malcolm

Hello Malcolm,

WAV audio files are not optimal for the web since these are uncompressed and not optimized for streaming. It would take too long to load a WAV file online to play it compared to an mp3 or mp4 file.

For the mp3 file try following:

Open the Preview Browser of WebSite X5 and then visit following link on it:
http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/?fpchrome
It will notify you that the plugin is already present but you will need to install it again.
Once done close the preview browser and then restart it again.

WMA files are also not well supported on most browsers since these require a codec to be installed while mp3 and mp4 are in most cases natively supported on the devices and browsers.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio

Thanks for the speedy response.

I am not quite there as yet. Here is what I have done:-

Opened a new page
Dragged the video and audio icon into a row
'Local file on PC' - selected as a mp3 file
'Internet File' - entered as http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/?fpchrome
Preview ticked
Message shows “Install Media Player Plugin!"

Not sure if what I have done is per your instructions.

I need a bit more help please.

Hello Malcolm,

You need to paste the link that Claudio gave you into the Preview browser, as opposed to any field in the Video/Audio Object properties.

Please see the two items circled in the screenshot attached.

Once you have pasted the URL in the correct place, proceed with the rest of Claudio's instructions.

Kind regards,

Paul
