Old Files Retained when Exporting / Importing Projects  en

I have been using Website X5 for the past few versions. Every time a new version comes out, I upgrade to it; export my project from the previous version and import it into the new version. When I access the folder that website X5 has unzipped the imported project files to, I can see it has retained every single (old) image file ever used on the website, regardless of whether there is currently a link to it or not in its current state.

Why are old image files that are no longer used on my latest website still being included in exports / imports?

It makes archiving my files very messy and there is no way I have time to start my site from scratch again.

Please advise, thanks.

Hello Tim,

Did in the Project you imported in Version 10 you still have files you deleted in older Versions?

Did you try to export the project in Version 10 and then import it back so only the current files are present in it?

Many thanks!

Hi

Did in the Project you imported in Version 10 you still have files you deleted in older Versions?  Yes

Did you try to export the project in Version 10 and then import it back so only the current files are present in it? Tried this - old files still present

The project is keeping old files that have been deleted from my website and no longer have a valid path.

In the "Incomedia" folder on my system, in the folder "WebSite X5 v9 - Evolution" and in my current website's folder within there is a folder called "Files" (created by Website X5) - which is exclusively old images no longer in use.

I deleted this folder, and any other old image files I could find in my current website's folder.

However... when I open the website in Website X5 v9, ready to export the project, it recreates the "Files" folder with all of the old images.

This means whenever I export the project to web or as a project to open in a newer version, it is transferring all the old unused files also.

So even if I delete the files, they are being recreated somehow.

I think I'm just going to have to try and recreate my website from scratch and copy the main layout from the current version.

Let me know if you find a fix to this.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello Tim,

You can also import the project in Version 10 and then delete the image objects and add these again where you add only the correct images.

In this way the reference to the old and no longer present files should be deleted and during the export these will no longer be exported.

In this way you will not need to recreate the project from scratch.

Many thanks!

Thanks - however the images seem to be hidden but present (if that makes sense).

They do not show on the site or the preview so cannot be deleted, and there are no valid links to them, however when I upload the site it uploads all the old images too.

If I go into the incomedia folder and delete the old images, they are automatically put back into the Incomedia folder when I open the project in website X5 or upload to the internet.

I have actually remade the site from scratch in version 10... it was quicker than I thought as I was able to copy all settings from the previous version.

Thanks

Tim

Hello Tim,

I'm glad to hear to remake the project from scratch was quick.

Usually removing the image objects helps to solve it.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I am having the same problem.

I made a new project using v10.1.8.52 with lots of images for a webshop. During the work, I changed a lot of images back and forth (width, height etc) and added them back. Sometimes I added the same image again before I removed the old one from the list, all with the same name of the image.

Then I discovered lots of old, unused, incorrect images in the \image folder and they keep turning up there. I have even removed everything from the project (including the Shopping Cart) and have only a blank Home page but the images still turn up, a whopping 140 images.

Even if I export the project, restart WebsiteX5, import the empty project and publish it to a folder, the \images folder still consist of 140 images.

So I unpacket the "project.iwprj" and there was a lot of references to these unused image files. This is not a new problem. Others have experienced it before, read thread "http://answers.websitex5.com/post/25486"

I noticed he found the same with the project file. I have not yet removed anything from it though.

It seems Incomedia should release some sort of clean-up tool and fix the bug.

Regards
Kenneth
