i have a simmilar problem to this, i have tried everything they have asked, still nog go, i wait for an other update. I tried reinstalling the program, that showed me there is an update 10.1.4.85 beta and offerd me to update, that did not work, half way it stopped downloading the update, by restarting my website X5 i have 10.1.4.45 again and again the preview makes X5 crash. I manage in the mean time to make a shortcut on my desktop to the folder in where i have the site saved. Read the exported version, and make the index.htm as shortcut. this way you can export your side in X5 and check with the shortcut preview. I know it is not good, but this way i can atleast make minor adjustments to the sites. I am looking for the next update to solve our problems, hope i could give you a workarround for the time being. Regards Henri.

well, you need to have IE10 or older(i don't recommend) and also you need .net v4.

IE11 will cause error. what is your IE version?

What is the version of your .net framework?

I have not installed X5 on Win8.1, I am using Win7 with IE11, and do not get the error, it is possible to be a problem specific to 8.1, which uses IE11 by default, I am not sure how easy it will be, even if possible to revert back to IE10.

yes, its win8.1 with ie11, and since its an unnecessary twisted version (no developer choose to work with it), here's how you should downgrade it, its important to go step by step.

1.
Click the Start button, and enter Programs and features in the search box.

2.
Click Programs and Features in the list of results, and then click View installed updates.

3.
Find Windows Internet Explorer under Microsoft Windows.

4.
Right-click Windows Internet Explorer, and then click Uninstall.

5.
In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes to uninstall.

6.
Click Restart now to finish uninstalling and restore previous versions of the browser.

That is usefull information Anthony, I assume if I want to go back to IE10 on Win 7 the procedure will be the same.

I think Microsoft should consider to employ more and better beta testers, as well as more rigerous testing for thier products, considering the amount of money they generate. I am sure the staff at the top end will still be able to live very comfortable lifestyles, even if they have to lose some pay to keep the shareholders happy.

no, in win7 is much easier that win 8.1

I believe the only reson they come up with win8 and 8.1 was to be able to compete with android and sell touch screens with windows, for everyone who is a pro user or developer, win 8 and 8.1 is a disaster. it only looks nice, but sofar best win is 7 64bit, no one complains.

Actually I do have Win8.1 with touch screen, and also tablet style too, I think it works very well and is very fast, but I only use Win7 for development so far, I think Microsoft maybe forgot on purpose to get many software developers to test out the software and seems they have mostly left it up to social media junkies to test the new system out, or even set the new standard.

I honestly do not think Microsoft really want developers outside thier ring to develop applications, this is where the browser technology is a bit of a stumbling block for them, because it is pretty much an open source/platform scenario, so I suppose they have the power to throw a few spanners in the works, as regards to developing Windows applications goes.

Why is everyone always so quick to blame Microsoft (MS) every time one has an issue with a piece of non-MS software??

I'm still running Win 8.1, .net 4 and IE 11. I'm now using X5 Evolution 10.1.6.50, and guess what? The issue is resolved. You think that maybe, just maybe, it was an X5 software issue??

You said: "1. Click the Start button, and enter Programs and features in the search box."

You are aware I'm sure (aren't you), that there is no"Start" button in Win 8.1? There is a Windows "logo" button where the "Start" button used to be. However, when one "clicks" it, there is no"search box" displayed, but rather one is taken to the "Start" screen, and there of course one can instigate a search.

It seems to me that if one is giving instructions on how to fix an issue, they should describe the interface as it really is.

Of course, this is just my opinon, and we all have one don't we.  :)

Have a good day.

you can have start button with 3rd party program, anyway

here's a better instruction for you (make sure you have another internet browser like mozilla firefox, just in case), download IE10, then follow these steps

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features

  2. Go to Windows Features and disable Internet Explorer 11 (remove the check mark)

  3. Then click on Display installed updates
  4. Search for Internet explorer
  5. Right-click on Internet Explorer 11 > Uninstall
  6. Restart your computer
  7. install IE 10

hopefully this one will satisfy you

Thaks for your respons Anthony, but like I said, my X5 issue has been resloved with X5 Evolution 10.1.6.50, i.e., the Preview window now closes as it should with no problem and I have the most current IE11, .net installed.

Thanks for your time.
