E-mail form not working

Hello I have just upgraded from ver 8 to ver 9 and redesigned my website (www.billige-sejl.dk)

The contact/email form worked perfectly, but with ver 9, it dosen't work. I have tried replacing imemail.inc.php as suggested.

Also changing the server options in preferences. And nothing helps. I don't recieve any emails (recieving adress:***)

My host supports php5. I have tried to disable "attach file" in my form and also disable Chapta spam guard without any result. Please help urgent.

I changed to version 9 for better form options, with file attach.

Hope someone can help. I have no knowledge in PHP

Hi Jens,

Please visit this link:

http://www.billige-sejl.dk/admin/login.php

...and enter your Administrator username and password as listed in Step 4 - Advanced Settings - Access Management

Once logged in you will be able to access the email diagnostics built in as part of Website X5.

Please let us know the results of the test and we'll take it from there!  Smile

Hi Paul

I have 4 options when loggin in as you describe:

blog, guestbook, website test, SEO

When trying the website test I get "pass" on all: PHP version 5.2.17, session support, publib folder on server and SQL settings. There no points where it doesn't pass.

Regards

Jens

Hi Jens,

I was forgetting that v9 does not have the enhanced email test facility which is now in v10.  However, it was still important to verify the pass on the PHP before progressing further  -  that's a good start.

You say that you have tried sending mail using low quality server script, and low-level script.  Can you confirm if you have also tried changing the data submission type from POST to GET?  I think from reading your initial post that you have done so, but I don't want to assume anything.

This would give you numerous configurations to experiment with, as I am sure you already have done.  However, it would be important to exhaust them all, as there may have been a change in the way emails are handled in v9 as compared to v8.  Unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge to say, but perhaps someone else can confirm.  In any event let's rule out absolutely every possible combination of settings within X5, so that we can then concentrate on external factors.

Does your upgraded v9 website reside on the same server and in the same directory as your old v8 site?  If so, have you ensured that all remnants of the old v8 site have been removed from the server?  The easiest way to do this would be to wipe all files from the directory and upload your entire X5 project afresh.

If it's not too much trouble can you post a screenshot of your old v8 email settings so we can compare?

Regards,

Paul

Hi again

Guess what, the impossible has happened. Just to be on the safe side I also contacted my webhotel provider. They dicovered an error on the mailserver used to pass on the form as an e-mail. This problem is now solved and form is working fine.

Thanks for the fantastic quick answers that were given, I still happy to have chosen websitex5 as my platform.

Regards Jens

Hi Jens,

Don't want to worry you but I have experienced recurrent problems with my sites loosing emails for no apparent reason - and it can be a bit embarrassing if you are running an e-commerce site... Though I think (hope) I have now run the problem down to the version of PHP the server was running - my server is now running v5.4.15 and I haven't had a reoccurence of the problem - though perhaps I shouldn't say that out loud as one of my sites has just gone down as I was updating some of the pages!

Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark

Well, the problem reoccured again, and I think the problem is, that the script used by the php form included in ver. 9, dosen't use email account and password for sending. This means that the mail are considered "spam" by many hosts. For that reason I will remove the form untill a solution is found.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the links, but this is russian for me, as I have no programming knowledge.

Does anyone has a "workable" solution for websitex5 ver. 9 ?

If this is an increasing problem with more and more hosts, it should be programmable in the setup gui in the program.

Regards

Jens

Hello Jens,

It was used the php mail() to keep the compatibility high with the most servers, so that everyone can use the email form function.

At the moment it is not possible to have this feature in WebSite X5. I would like to suggest that you open an "Idea" Post where you describe to us the feature you would like to see implemented in the future releases of WebSite X5.

Please feel free to write back if you need more information.
